Rugby is a team game that consists of two teams of 15 players. It is a full contact sport based on running with an oval shaped ball in hand to score a ‘try’ or kick a ‘goal’. A try is worth 5 points and is scored by a participant carrying the ball over the goal line and touching the ball onto the floor. A goal can be worth numerous points (drop goal – 2 points, penalty goal – 3 points, try goal – 2 points) and is scored by a team kicking the ball over an H-shaped goal at the end of the pitch on the goal line. The winning team is the team with the most points at the end of the match.
Due to it being a team game one of the main benefits of rugby is the social opportunities available.
