Alcohol

Alcohol

Drinking too much alcohol is one of the most common causes for hospital admission in the UK and can have a harmful effect on the heart. If you drink more than the recommended guidelines it can also cause liver problems and contribute towards other diseases such as stroke and some cancers. Alcohol is also high in calories so reducing your intake can be a great way to lose weight.

The daily recommended guidelines are:

  • 3 – 4 units of alcohol per day for an average man
  • 2 – 3 units of alcohol per day for an average women

1 unit of alcohol equates to one small glass (100ml) of wine or half a pint of medium strength lager or cider.
